### FSF at DebConf17: John & Molly take Montreal

FSF Executive Director John Sullivan and Campaigns Manager Molly de
Blanc delivered talks disputing the claim that GNU Public License
(GPL) use is in decline, explaining the Respects Your Freedom
certification program, and discussing how to extend free software use

Today, the GNOME Project proudly celebrated its 20th birthday. Founded
by Miguel de Icaza and Federico Mena Quintero on August 15, 1997,
GNOME has since become a pillar of the free software community.

### The Licensing and Compliance Lab interviews David Rosca of QupZilla 

*From August 15th*

QupZilla, currently at version 2.1.2, is a free software Web browser
using the new and very fast QtWebEngine browser. It aims to be a
lightweight Web browser available through all major platforms. This
project was originally started only for educational purposes by a lone
developer, David Rosca, and since then, QupZilla has grown into a
feature-rich browser.

### May and June 2017: Photos from Richard Stallman's talks in Curitiba and 
Brasilia

RMS was in Brazil from late May to mid-June. In addition to speaking
in Belo Horizonte, on May 29th, he visited Campinas, where he gave a
free-standing speech, “Your Freedom as a User of Computers and Cell
Phones,” on May 31st, at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas. He
then went on to Curitiba, where he was a guest of the Universidade
Federal do Paraná.

### Richard Stallman – the freedom defender whom we may not deserve but

whether the next generation of online videos will be accessible. If we
don't want to be forced to choose between excluding disabled users or
taking tens of thousands of videos away from the public, the W3C had
better get this one right.

### Technoethical T400s review

I am very excited that you can actually order hardware nowadays that
others have checked for best compatibility already. Since my old
laptop got very unreliable recently I wanted to do better this time
and I went for the Technoethical T400s, which comes pre-installed with
Trisquel. I am very pleased with the excellent customer care and the
quality of the laptop itself.

### Ethereum Foundation recommends against EME measures

On August 21, 2017, the Ethereum Foundation issued a statement in
opposition to the publication of Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) as a
W3C Recommendation. The Ethereum Foundation is a member of the W3C,
and according to the statement, it objects to EME and Digital
Restrictions Management (DRM) in general, as many of its developers
conduct security research and build Web technology.

### Software Freedom Conservancy announces North Bay Python Conference 

*From August 16th by Software Freedom Conservancy*

Software Freedom Conservancy announced on August 16th that North Bay
Python, a regional conference in Petaluma, California designed to be
inclusive and affordable, has become Conservancy’s first member
project dedicated to organizing community events. Conservancy, a
public charity focused on ethical technology, is home to over forty
member projects dedicated to developing and promoting free and open
source software.

### Summer FSF internship wrapup
