Digital Restrictions Management presents a semantic ambiguity. It may
mean:
1. Digital Management of Restrictions
2. Management of Digital Restrictions
In gnu.org we intend the first. We are talking about digital
technologies that are used to restrict access to both digital and
physical objects.
Therefore, translations should make this clear, never imply the second
meaning.
For example,
Italian: Gestione digitale delle restrizioni
Spanish: Gestión digital de restricciones.
The same goes for "Digital Rights Management". It means "Digital
Management of Rights". BUT we never use it in gnu.org except to
denounce the term.
I have added this under "Accuracy" in the new guide to translations
with RMS's approval.
